A few ideas on how you can use the PHP scripts provided here on this site...
.
Link exchanges
If you're exchanging links with other websites it's important to know how many hits you're sending
them and how many hits they're sending you. No point sending them 100 hits only to get 10 back in return - that hardly
seems fair. Simply create two click-trackers, one going to your website and another going to your link exchange partner's
website. Then ask your link exchange partner to use your click-tracker URL to link to your website, and in turn you
can link to theirs using the second click-tracker you created. This way you know exactly how many hits are flowing in
both directions. Click-trackers also have the advantage of tracking unique clicks. This means if your link exchange partner
clicks on your link repeatedly (to make it seems as if he's sending you traffic), it'll only count as
one unique click. By monitoring unique clicks and not total clicks, you'll know exactly how much "real" traffic you're
getting.
If you have (or plan to have) a links page, the Links Page script will allow you to easily manage your links and view
the traffic flow in both directions. You can easily identify unfair link exchanges where you're sending more traffic
than you're getting back.
Hit-trackers
These are useful for finding pages on your website that aren't being seen. Put a separate hit-tracker on
every page of your website and you'll identify the pages that are getting hits and those that aren't.
Auction Listings
Put hit-trackers on your auction listings to see how many page views you're getting. Use a separate
hit-tracker for each listing. They work just like those ugly counters you usually see, except they're invisible. Only
you will ever know how many page views your listings are getting, much better than declaring this information to the whole
world with a tacky counter.
You can also use the chronological hit-tracker on your auction listings to see WHEN most of your page views are occurring.
This information is highly valuable. You can make sure any future auctions are set to end at the time when you expect most
of your traffic to occur. Most bids will come in during the last few hours of the auction, and for maximum profits you
want this to coincide with the time of day that most of your traffic is expected to arrive.
Banners & Text Ads
Use a click-tracker on your banner ads, text ads and e-zine ads to track the number of hits you're getting.
No point paying for advertising if it isn't sending you sufficient traffic.
Affiliate Links
Use the Short URL or Cloaked URL script to cloak your affiliate URLs, or any URLs you don't want the surfer to
see.
Split-testing
You can use the HTML Rotator script to split-test two different sales pages. Design two pages
and put a separate hit-tracker on each one. Also place click-trackers on your "place your order" link (a separate one on each of the
two pages). Now use the HTML Rotator to switch
between the two pages you've designed. You now have a page which switches between your two designs each time it
loads. You can also monitor how many hits you're getting on each page (should be about equal) and, more importantly,
how many clicks you're getting on your "order" link on each page. Use both of these statistics to calculate your CTR
(click-thru rate) and then you'll know which of your page designs is the most effective. For example, if the first page
gets 348 hits and 7 clicks on the "order" link, the CTR is: (7/348)*100 = 2%If the second page gets a CTR of 3%, you
can work on re-designing the first page to try and get the CTR up to or above 3%.
Click Switcher
One use for a click-switcher is to share clicks equally to an affiliate program, using two different affiliate IDs. For
example, if you write an article with an affiliate link in it, as an extra incentive to get e-zine owners to publish
your article you could replace the affiliate link with a click-switcher. The first URL in the click-switcher would go to
your own affiliate link with your affiliate ID. The second link could be the e-zine owner's affiliate link. This way
you both benefit from any traffic sent to the affiliate program you're promoting.
